Samoan Heroes #10: Maualaivao Albert Wendt

Albert 1 b&w (1)

Albert Wendt is a celebrated writer sometimes referred to as ‘The Father of Pacific Literature.’ Albert’s early experiences with stories were in Samoa, at the feet of his grandmother Mele. He won a scholarship to New Plymouth Boys High where his teachers noticed he also had a gift for storytelling. They encouraged him to write. Albert has won many awards for his writing, but don’t think it’s been easy for him. One of his books took nearly 30 years to write! That’s the kind of perseverance it takes to achieve some goals.

Read more about Albert Wendt‘s journey in my upcoming book on Samoan Heroes.
